RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir, praised the achievement of Indonesian men’s doubles shuttlers Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, who captured the BWF World Tour Super 750 Daihatsu Japan Open 2026 title.

She said the victory reflects the hard work of Indonesian badminton athletes in bringing pride to the nation on the international stage.

“This accomplishment is concrete proof of our athletes’ dedication in elevating Indonesia’s name," Ambassador Nurmala stated in a press release received by RRI on Sunday, July 19.

"The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo consistently supports the participation of Indonesia’s finest talents in world-class tournaments held in Japan,” she added.

Fajar/Fikri, seeded second, clinched the championship after defeating South Korea’s top-seeded pair Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae in straight games, 21–19 and 21–17.

The victory marked Indonesia’s only title at the Japan Open 2026 and the nation’s first BWF World Tour Super 750 crown of the 2026 season.

In the mixed doubles event, China's Feng Yang Zhe/Huang Dong Ping won the title after defeating Hong Kong's Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet. In women's singles, India's P.V. Sindhu emerged victorious by defeating Japan's Akane Yamaguchi.

Meanwhile, France's Christo Popov captured the men's singles title after beating Japan's Koki Watanabe. The women's doubles crown went to South Korea's Kim Hye Jeong/Kong Hee Yong, who defeated China's Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian in a three-game final. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
