RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s national boxing team celebrated its first gold medal at the inaugural Asian Boxing U19 and U23 Championships after Anggie Intania Chalik defeated India’s Gunjan in the women’s light flyweight (45–48kg) U19 final at Basket Hall, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Anggie claimed victory by split decision, with three judges scoring 29-28 in her favor while two awarded the same score to Gunjan.
From the opening bell, both fighters engaged in fierce exchanges, Antara reported. Anggie moved actively around the ring, probing Gunjan’s defense with sharp punches.
Backed by strong home support, she pressed forward, landing several clean jabs to her opponent’s head. Gunjan responded with resilience, countering effectively to close the first round.
The second round saw Gunjan intensify her challenge, forcing Anggie into defensive mode. Yet the Indonesian quickly turned the tide, unleashing counterattacks that pinned her rival against the ropes and delivered a flurry of body and head shots.
In the decisive third round, Anggie raised her aggression, breaking through Gunjan’s guard early and circling the ring to create openings. The boxer of Papua-Sumatra descent showcased her stamina, maintaining pressure with continuous punches until the final bell.
The judges’ decision confirmed Anggie’s dominance, securing Indonesia’s breakthrough gold medal in the tournament.
The achievement capped a strong campaign for the host nation, which had previously collected five bronze medals through Linda Sarui Langi Malin (women’s minimumweight 45–48kg), Maria Mesita Manguntu (women’s light welterweight 65kg), Rliko Praveg (men’s cruiserweight 85kg), Joshua Toni Marties Lahin (men’s lightweight 60kg), and Viktor Wengkang (men’s welterweight 65kg). ***
