RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is strengthening its badminton talent pipeline by hosting the Yonex-Sunrise Jaya Raya Junior International Grand Prix 2026, giving young athletes valuable international match experience and an opportunity to earn world ranking points without traveling overseas.

The tournament is taking place at PB Jaya Raya Sports Hall in Bintaro, South Tangerang, Banten, from July 7-12, attracting 981 players from 17 countries, including host Indonesia.

PB Jaya Raya Daily Chairperson and Tournament Organizing Committee Chair Rosiana Tendean said the event reflects the club's long-term commitment to developing Indonesia's next generation of badminton players.

"The Yonex-Sunrise Jaya Raya Junior International Grand Prix is one of our commitments to supporting the regeneration of Indonesian badminton," Rosiana said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

"This tournament gives young athletes the opportunity to gain international match experience, measure their abilities against players from various countries, and build a champion's mentality from an early age," she added.

Rosiana said the tournament also enables Indonesian junior players to gain international exposure and collect world ranking points without having to compete overseas.

The 2026 edition features three age categories: Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19. A total of 14 titles are being contested across boys' singles, girls' singles, boys' doubles, girls' doubles, and mixed doubles, with the mixed doubles event held only in the Under-17 and Under-19 categories.

The tournament offers a total prize pool of USD 25,000 (approximately IDR 447 million). Rosiana expressed hope that the event would continue to serve as a pathway for young athletes to progress to the elite level.

"We hope this tournament will continue to produce future world-class players. Many athletes who competed here have gone on to become national players and achieve success at the international level," she continued.

The opening day on Tuesday featured 220 matches across singles and doubles events in the Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 categories. The organizing committee has opened free admission for spectators wishing to watch the competition at GOR PB Jaya Raya. ***
