RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia will compete in the 2026 Badminton Asia Junior Championships at the Yatsushiro City General Gymnasium in Japan. It will involve a total of 26 young Indonesian athletes at the competition.

It will take place from June 26–30, 2026, for the team events, and July 1–5, 2026, for the individual events. These 17- to 18-year-old badminton players represent Indonesia’s hope to continue the nation’s tradition of excellence in junior badminton while maintaining its status as one of Asia’s badminton powerhouses.

Through this championship, the young athletes are expected to gain valuable competitive experience and enhance their readiness to face opponents at both the Asian and global levels.

This initiative aligns with the youth athlete training and development program that Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) continues to implement with the full support of BNI. BNI Corporate Secretary, Okki Rushartomo, stated that the participation of young athletes in the 2026 Asia Junior Championships is a crucial part of the national athlete regeneration process, which must be continuously strengthened.

“For BNI, supporting the participation of young athletes in international competitions is part of the company’s commitment to fostering national sports and developing Indonesia’s young talent,” he said in a press release on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

This optimism is backed by Indonesia’s strong performance in the last three editions of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships. In 2023, Indonesia finished as the runner-up in the team event and won the women’s singles title through Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari. Meanwhile, in 2024, Indonesia brought home a bronze medal in the team event and a runner-up finish in mixed doubles through the pairing of Darren Aurelius and Bernadine.

This year’s Indonesian contingent consists of 26 junior athletes under the age of 19 who will compete in both team and individual events. They will be accompanied by nine coaches and nine officials to ensure that training and support run smoothly throughout the championship.
