RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen suffered a first-round exit at the 2026 Eastbourne Open after a marathon three-set contest against American Caty McNally on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

The 24-year-old Indonesian, seeded sixth at the WTA 250 grass-court tournament, was beaten 5-7, 7-6(5), 3-6 in a match that lasted three hours and 10 minutes, Antara reported.

The opening set was closely contested, with both players level at 3-3 before McNally capitalized on strong serving to take the set. Janice fought back from 5-5 but lost the final two games as McNally secured the early advantage.

Janice responded in the second set after falling behind following a service break. The Jakarta-born player recovered quickly and forced a tense tie-break, winning the final two points from 5-5 to level the match and send it into a deciding set.

McNally regained control in the third set and closed out the victory by winning the final two games. Although Janice recorded a higher first-serve percentage and fewer double faults, she was unable to stop the American from advancing.

The result marks Janice’s third consecutive first-round singles exit on grass this season, following early losses at the Libema Open and Nottingham Open.

She will, however, continue her Eastbourne campaign in doubles alongside Hong Kong’s Eudice Chong, with the pair scheduled to face second seeds Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani in the opening round. ***
