RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian women’s basketball team is bolstering its roster for the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with five new players added to the national training camp.
The move reflects the Indonesian Basketball Association's (Perbasi) commitment to nurturing young talent and strengthening squad depth ahead of the continental stage.
Perbasi's National Team Agency (BTN) confirmed the inclusion of Nurlaela Azhara, Anggita Yuliani Putri, Jesslyne Jaya Wiyanto, Pegi Maulani, and Anastasya Virly.
Team manager Handoyo explained that the selection was based on standout performances during the Campus League, where several promising players had not yet been called to the national team.
“Most of those selected are young players. Anggita is 19, Jesslyne and Anastasya are 20, while Pegi just turned 21 in April,” Handoyo said in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Earlier, BTN had summoned 24 players to the training camp on May 3, 2026, including several earmarked for Indonesia’s 3x3 women’s basketball team. “Currently, we have around 16 players, plus the new additions and overseas arrivals. Some are registered for both 5x5 and 3x3 formats,” Handoyo noted.
He added that training progress has been encouraging, with players already absorbing the coaching staff’s programs. Adjustments will continue as the squad composition evolves.
The Asian Games 2026 will run from September 19 to October 4 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Indonesia’s women’s team is led by Lithuanian head coach Gitautas Kievina, who is overseeing preparations to ensure the squad is ready to compete at the highest level. ***
