RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s doubles pairing of Aldila Sutjiadi and Janice Tjen enters the Madrid Open 2026 with growing confidence after adapting quickly to red clay conditions.

The WTA 1000 event marks their debut as a pair on red clay, following their appearance at the Charleston Open on green clay. While Aldila has previously competed in Madrid, it is Janice’s first time playing at the Caja Magica.

“This is our first time on red clay, and the adjustment hasn’t been too significant because I’ve partnered with Janice several times before," Aldila said on Thursday, April 23, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

"So, we already understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses,” she added.

To prepare for the surface change, Aldila said she had trained on clay courts in Jakarta before traveling to Spain.

“We trained in Jakarta for four days on clay courts, so by the time we arrived here, we were already fairly adjusted to the surface,” she added.

Despite the preparation, Aldila noted that Madrid presents additional challenges due to altitude, which affects ball speed. “Here, because of the altitude, it’s a bit different,” she concluded.

According to the draw, the Indonesian pair will face Marta Kostyuk and Clara Tauson in the first round on Thursday, April 23, at around 6:20 p.m. Jakarta time.

Aldila and Janice were eliminated in the opening round of the Charleston Open earlier this month, but carry positive momentum from winning the Chennai Open 2025 title.
