RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s recent success at the SEA Youth Table Tennis Championship 2026 in Singapore has been hailed as proof of the country’s growing commitment to nurturing talent from an early age.
Secretary General of the Indonesia Pingpong League (IPL), Yon Mardiono, credited the achievement to consistent youth development programs. “This victory shows that early-stage training, carried out consistently, is beginning to bear fruit,” he said in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Held at Pasir Ris Sports Hall from April 14–19, the SEA Youth Table Tennis Championship 2026 in Singapore brought together 140 athletes from nine Southeast Asian nations.
Indonesia fielded 16 players and returned home with one gold and four bronze medals. The gold came from Muhammad Naufal Junindra in the Boys U-19 Singles, while the bronzes were earned in Girls U-19 Singles (Ni Ketut Maharani), U-19 Mixed Doubles, Boys U-19 Doubles, and the Boys Team event.
Yon praised the young athletes’ performance as evidence of a more structured and competitive training system taking shape. He emphasized that sustained collaboration among stakeholders is vital to maintaining this positive trajectory.
“If all parties continue moving in the same direction, I am optimistic Indonesian table tennis will achieve even greater success,” he noted.
The achievement also drew recognition from Indonesian Olympic Committee Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari, who described it as a strong signal of the sport’s revival after years of challenges. He highlighted Naufal Junindra’s rise, noting his earlier bronze medal at the 2025 SEA Games.
“This is a positive sign of Indonesian table tennis making a comeback,” Oktohari said, adding that improved governance within the sport is equally crucial.
“We must leave behind issues of dualism and focus on one shared goal, delivering Indonesia’s best achievements on the world stage,” he concluded. ***
