RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian men’s singles shuttler Alwi Farhan finished runner-up at the 2026 BWF World Tour Super 300 Swiss Open after losing to Japan’s Yushi Tanaka 18-21, 12-21 in the final.
The match took place at St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland, on Sunday, March 15, 2026, and lasted 43 minutes. The opening game was tightly contested, with Alwi exchanging points until the score reached 18-18. Tanaka then pulled ahead to take the set 21-18.
Tanaka maintained his strong performance in the second game, scoring six consecutive points to win the interval. He remained dominant after the break, closing the set 21-12 to secure the championship title.
Alwi said his journey to the final was challenging. “Unfortunately, I felt a bit anticlimactic in the final,” he said after the match. Despite the loss, he expressed gratitude for reaching the final and acknowledged Tanaka’s resilience and superior play.
Alwi noted that his physical condition was not optimal, especially after competing on a different continent. “I felt I couldn’t recover as well as I needed to after last night’s semifinal match. I’ll come back stronger and try again another time,” said the 2026 Indonesia Masters champion. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
