RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia kept its campaign alive at the All England Open 2026 after men’s singles player Alwi Farhan and mixed doubles pair Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah secured places in the quarterfinals in Birmingham, England.

Alwi produced one of the day’s notable results by defeating seventh seed Chou Tien Chen in straight games during their round-of-16 clash at Utilita Arena on Thursday, March 5, 2026. The Indonesian won 21-13, 21-19 to advance to the last eight.

“Thank God, God’s timing is always the best. Thank you, God. I am here not because of myself, but because of my God,” Alwi said in an official statement from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) after the match, as quoted by Antara.

He said the pattern of play was not significantly different from his previous meeting with Chou at the Australian Open 2025, but this time he focused on overcoming his own doubts and internal pressure. “That is what allowed me to win the match,” he added. Alwi also described Chou as a player with a unique style, particularly when energized by crowd attention.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s mixed doubles pair Amri/Nita also advanced after winning an all-Indonesian clash against Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu in the round of 16. Amri/Nita secured a straight-games victory, 22-20, 21-18, in a high-intensity match at Utilita Arena.

“Thank God, our second match in our All England debut went well. We were able to show all the preparation we had made here and eventually secured the win,” Amri said in the PBSI statement.

He noted that the match was particularly tight because both pairs were making their debut at the All England Open, the world’s oldest badminton tournament, and were already familiar with each other’s playing styles. “The match was very tight and intense. The focus, tension and speed were all very high. We both already know each other’s strengths and weaknesses,” he said.
