Indonesian Rider Mario Aji Vows to Bounce Back After Thailand Moto2 Crash

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Moto2 rider Mario Suryo Aji has pledged to refocus on upcoming races after a disappointing early exit at the Thailand Grand Prix, where he crashed out in Buriram on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Starting from ninth on the grid with Idemitsu Honda Team Asia, the 21-year-old nicknamed “Super Mario”, lost balance in the opening laps and went down on lap two. Under new FIA regulations, riders who crash are prohibited from restarting their engines on the track or in run-off areas, forcing Aji to retire from the race.
“There are no ‘what ifs’ or ‘maybes'. It already happened. I’m grateful and I apologize to the team,” Aji wrote on Instagram after the race, as quoted by Antara, acknowledging the setback while thanking his crew for their support.
Despite the disappointment, Aji emphasized his determination to move forward. He will now turn his attention to the second round of the Moto2 season, scheduled for March 20–22 at the Autodromo Internacional in Brasília, Brazil.
“Thank you for the support this week for both of us! Can’t wait to start in Brazil,” he added, signaling optimism for the next challenge. ***
