Minister Highlights Child Safety in Digital Service Design

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid emphasized the importance of designing digital services with child safety in mind from the outset during a meeting with The LEGO Group Senior Director of Government and Public Affairs for the Asia Pacific Region, Lizum Mishra.

During the meeting, Minister Meutya discussed the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) No. 17/2025, also known as PP Tunas. She also addressed the management of features that could pose risks to children.

"Once again, we are very supportive. However, this must, of course, comply with the provisions of PP Tunas," Minister Meutya said in an official statement cited in Jakarta on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026.

She also stressed the importance of managing children's access to digital services, saying such systems should be designed with parental consent in mind. "We prefer an approach in which access is not granted without parental consent," she said.

According to Minster Meutya, children's access should be managed through mechanisms that take parental consent into account. She said this approach is more appropriate than focusing solely on regulating children's interactions in the digital space.

The approach should also be accompanied by efforts to educate parents on managing their children's digital interactions. Such education does not have to rely solely on direct information delivery. It can also happen through parents' experience guiding their children while using digital services.

"The best form of education is through direct experience. We provide initial access without interactive features, then parents learn how to manage those interactions," she added. (Misni Parjiati)
