RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, stated that 4.1 million pieces of online gambling content have been addressed. She noted that the government continues to cut off access and restrict the operational space for perpetrators of online gambling crimes.
She emphasized that this figure should not be viewed merely as a record of achievement, but rather as a matter requiring collective attention. This is because whenever the government takes enforcement action against online gambling, new content and activities inevitably emerge.
"Once again, this is not an achievement, but a progress report that we need to share. Ideally, the numbers should be higher. When we intervene and cut off access, they reappear. We take action again, and they pop up again," said Minister Meutya in her official statement in Jakarta on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
She stated that of the of the 4.1 million pieces of online gambling content addressed, 3.6 million consisted of websites and IP addresses. These findings are based on investigations conducted by the Directorate General of Digital Space Supervision (Ditjen PRD) under the Ministry of Communication and Digital.
The investigation revealed that the vast majority of these websites were based abroad, while the IP addresses were located overseas. The Minister explained that the perpetrators of these digital gambling crimes specifically target Indonesian citizens.
"A large portion of those identified by Director General Alexander Sabar have IP addresses located overseas, yet they are accessed by Indonesian citizens," she said.
This serves as clear evidence that online gambling activities bear the characteristics of transnational crime. Consequently, the eradication of online gambling cannot be accomplished by a single party alone.
"The government cannot do it alone. We need the industry and the public to work together to safeguard our digital space," the Minister added. (Misni Parjiati)
