Banten Becomes Learning Model for Disaster Risk Reduction Month 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Ahead of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction on October 13, the National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) is holding the annual Disaster Risk Reduction (PRB) Month Commemoration. BNPB held the Kick Off for the 2026 PRB Month Commemoration online in Jakarta on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

This year marks the 14th year of the PRB Month Commemoration. Head of the Agency, Suharyanto, stated that Banten has been chosen this year as a learning model for other regions in Indonesia.

According to him, the region was chosen because it has a complete spectrum of disaster threats to serve as a lesson for other regions in Indonesia. Carrying the theme "From the Sunda Strait For Indonesia Eight Years of Learning For Better Preparedness," the event also features the slogan "Nariksa Bumi Nusantara."

"We will apply the slogan 'Nariksa Bumi Nusantara,' which means not just protecting, but also includes actions of nurturing, caring for, and maintaining a vigilant or cautious attitude, so that the experience from Banten Province can become a lesson for other regions in Indonesia," he said.

Responding to the appointment, the Assistant for Government and People's Welfare of the Banten Provincial Secretariat, Komarudin, explained that his region indeed has a complex disaster potential, ranging from volcanology, tsunamis, earthquakes, to non-natural risks such as strategic industrial and nuclear areas. Despite these challenges, the disaster risk index in Banten has successfully been reduced by 28 percent over the past three years.

Komarudin explained, "So in terms of results or what we have achieved up to today, the disaster risk index in Banten Province has decreased. Approximately 50 points, yes. And that is equivalent to 28 percent. This certainly shows that our joint efforts between the local government, both the Banten Provincial Government and Regencies/Cities, as well as the community, the business world, and perhaps the media, and so on, are bearing fruit."

The Agency also invites all ministries, institutions, organizations, regional apparatuses, NGOs, and the community to directly contribute to the PRB Month Commemoration. The peak of this PRB Month series of events will be held from October 13 to 15, 2026, in Serang City, Banten.
