RRI.CO.ID, Jembrana - Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has officially begun developing the Pengambengan Fishing Port in Jembrana, Bali, into an integrated, world-class fishing port. The development will integrate fishing activities with fish processing and the distribution of fisheries products to global markets.
Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said the development of the Pengambengan Fishing Port had required a lengthy planning process, as the government also needed to secure support from businesses and fishing communities. The development is designed to accommodate the needs of both small- and large-scale fisheries businesses, including traditional fishers.
“Beyond economic development, we hope this facility will combine a modern fishing industry with tourism, creating good opportunities for Bali’s future,” Trenggono said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Pengambengan Fishing Port on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The development is expected to increase annual fish landings from 61,300 tons to 124,000 tons. The port’s capacity will also be expanded to accommodate up to 1,600 vessels and create employment opportunities for around 25,000 people.
In terms of state revenue, the project is projected to increase Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) from 48 billion rupiahs to 104 billion rupiahs annually. The port area will also expand from 13.5 hectares to 49.3 hectares, while the harbor basin will increase from 24 hectares to 88.3 hectares.
The development, valued at 1.27 trillion rupiahs and supported by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), is targeted for completion by the end of 2029. The port will also be able to accommodate large fishing vessels from Benoa Port and support the integration of fish processing, marketing, and distribution activities.
Bali Governor I Wayan Koster has pledged support from the provincial and local governments for the development of the Pengambengan Fishing Port, which he said aligns with Bali’s strategy to promote growth in the maritime sector.
"This is an extraordinary program, the first and largest of its kind in Indonesia, which will increase Bali’s economic value, improve the welfare of fishers, and develop the fisheries sector from upstream to downstream,” Koster said.
