RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The government is upgrading 66 regional public hospitals (RSUD) from Type D to Type C facilities to expand access to healthcare services across the country.

"The President has directed us to revitalize hospitals in regencies that do not yet have Type C hospitals. The first phase involves upgrading 66 regional public hospitals from Type D to Type C," Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono said during a press conference held by the Indonesian Government Communication Agency (Bakom RI) in Jakarta on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The Health Ministry aims to complete the revitalization program by 2027 as part of efforts to improve hospital services in regions across Indonesia, including remote and outermost areas, so that residents can access healthcare with more consistent standards.

Dante said the construction and revitalization program is being carried out in stages between 2025 and 2027.

For 2026, 18 hospitals remain under construction, while two others are in the tender process.

The Health Ministry will also deploy doctors to the 66 revitalized hospitals after facility upgrades are completed to support healthcare services.

"This is part of our accelerated effort to guarantee healthcare services from Sabang to Merauke, in every village and city, with the same quality standards. Doctors will be deployed by the Health Ministry to these regions," Dante said.

He added that all hospitals included in the program are being developed according to the same standards to ensure optimal healthcare services at the regency level.

The hospital improvement program targets Type D, or D Pratama, hospitals so they can offer service capabilities equivalent to Type C hospitals, including the facilities and medical personnel needed to provide basic specialist services.

The government expects the upgrades to improve healthcare access in the regions and reduce the need for residents to seek treatment outside their home regencies. ***
