President Prabowo Assesses Jakarta LRT Connectivity on New Line

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Jakarta LRT’s Kelapa Gading–Manggarai route operation strengthens public transport connectivity across the capital. The service expands mobility options for residents traveling from North Jakarta to Central and South Jakarta and integrates with other public transport networks.

President Prabowo Subianto personally experienced the Jakarta LRT journey on the Kelapa Gading–Manggarai route on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. The trip allowed the Head of State to assess the service’s readiness and the new line's connectivity.

The Kelapa Gading–Manggarai route spans approximately 12.2 kilometers and includes 11 stations. Starting from Kelapa Gading, the LRT serves Boulevard Utara, Boulevard Selatan, Pulomas, Equestrian, Velodrome, Rawamangun, Pramuka, Matraman, Proklamasi, and ends at Manggarai.

The journey from Kelapa Gading to Manggarai takes about 28 minutes. The elevated line traverses several areas that form part of Jakarta’s urban mobility network.

Upon arriving at Kelapa Gading Station, President Prabowo was welcomed by students and a performance of Keroncong Tugu, a Betawi musical ensemble. He tapped in using a travel card before inspecting station facilities, including a reading corner for passengers.

The President then proceeded to the platform and boarded the LRT bound for Manggarai. During the trip, he observed the condition of the train cars and the atmosphere among passengers.

Upon arrival at Manggarai Station, the President disembarked and tapped out at the concourse area. He expressed appreciation for the experience. “Congratulations. Riding the LRT is pleasant. It is extraordinary,” he said, as quoted on the Ministry of State Secretariat’s official website.

Alongside the operation of the Kelapa Gading–Manggarai route, the Jakarta LRT network is being developed to reach more areas and connect with other modes of transportation.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the provincial administration is committed to continuing Jakarta LRT development. Plans include extending the line from Kelapa Gading to the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) and developing a route from the Velodrome to connect with the Whoosh high-speed train.

Pramono requested support from the central government, specifically the Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara), to assist with the network’s expansion.

“We intend to extend this LRT line from Kelapa Gading to JIS, and then from the Velodrome to the Whoosh high-speed train. Mr. President, it would be truly gratifying if you were to task Danantara with assisting us in this endeavor,” he said.

Responding to the request, President Prabowo confirmed that Danantara would assist with the construction of the Jakarta LRT. He noted that developing public transportation in the capital is a matter of national importance and should not be the sole responsibility of the Jakarta Provincial Administration.

“Danantara is obliged to assist, because DKI does not belong solely to those who live there. DKI belongs to the entire nation,” he said during the inauguration at Manggarai Station.

The President added that the central government could support development projects in various regions when needed. He emphasized that collaboration among stakeholders reflects the spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) in national development.

“If we are willing to cooperate and work together, this nation will rise to become extraordinary. I am certain of that,” he said.

With the Kelapa Gading–Manggarai route now operational, the Jakarta LRT network connects areas from the north to the south of the capital. Further expansion to JIS and the connection to the Whoosh high-speed train hold the potential to enhance intermodal connectivity within Jakarta’s public transportation system. ***
