Flights to Kalimantan Delayed as Haze Covers the Island

RRI.CO.ID, Tangerang - Dozens of flights from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Kalimantan have been delayed due to haze. The airspace over Kalimantan is currently blanketed by smoke from forest and land fires.

Assistant Deputy for Communications and Legal Affairs at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Yudistiawan, said the haze has sharply reduced visibility. Conditions at Supadio Airport in Pontianak, Tjilik Riwut Airport in Palangkaraya, and H. Asan Airport in Sampit have fallen below the minimum flight visibility threshold.

“As of 4 p.m. Jakarta time today, at least eight flights to and from Soekarno-Hatta Airport have been affected. Yesterday, 22 flights were affected,” Yudistiawan said on Monday, September 14, 2026.

He said the airport and relevant stakeholders are closely monitoring the situation. “We understand this is affecting passenger travel,” he said.

The airport is coordinating with airlines and other parties to assist affected passengers, including providing food and drinks while they wait for their flights.

Yudistiawan said Soekarno-Hatta Airport has activated the Service Recovery Activation (SRA) procedure. Passengers with delayed flights will receive logistical assistance in the waiting area.

He advised passengers traveling to Kalimantan to recheck their flight schedules. “Prospective passengers are advised to check their flight schedules before heading to the airport,” he said.

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport provides customer service through the “InJourney Airports Contact Center” at the official telephone number 172.

General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Heru Karyadi, confirmed that 22 flights on the Soekarno-Hatta–Kalimantan route were canceled on Sunday, September 13, 2026, due to haze at the three Kalimantan airports. Visibility at Supadio, Tjilik Riwut, and H. Asan airports had fallen below the minimum flight limit.

“Based on operational data as of 6:15 p.m., 26 flights were affected, consisting of 22 cancellations and two delays,” he said.

Airport management confirmed that overall operations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport remain smooth. “Other airports are operating without any issues,” he said. (Misni Parjiati)
