TNI Promotes Sports Development to Strengthen Human Resources

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Military (TNI) are promoting structured and sustainable sports development as part of efforts to build healthy, resilient, disciplined, and high-achieving human resources through the 2026 TNI Commander’s Cup Open Basketball Tournament.

The tournament, themed “TNI Sports Achievement, Indonesia’s Sports Achievement,” was officially opened by TNI Chief Commander, General Agus Subiyanto at GOR Soemantri Brodjonegoro in South Jakarta on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The tournament will run through September 19.

Agus said the current global strategic environment is marked by growing competition among countries, rapid technological development, and increasingly complex cross-sector threats. These conditions require Indonesia to develop human resources that are healthy, resilient, disciplined, and competitive.

He said sports play a role not only in maintaining physical fitness and achieving sporting success, but also in building character, sportsmanship, solidarity, and perseverance.

“Through sports, we not only maintain physical fitness and pursue achievement, but also build character, sportsmanship, solidarity, and a spirit of perseverance,” Agus said.

Therefore, all sports development stakeholders, particularly within the TNI, sports clubs, and universities, are encouraged to strengthen structured and sustainable development programs and build greater cooperation with stakeholders across the national sports sector. These efforts are expected to produce high-performing athletes who can bring honor to Indonesia.

The 2026 TNI Commander’s Cup Open Basketball Tournament is being contested by 33 teams, comprising 12 teams from the TNI, government institutions, and state-owned enterprises, 12 community teams, and nine university teams.

“For this reason, let us continue to strengthen cooperation and carry out structured and sustainable sports development, so that we can produce high-performing athletes who can bring honor to our nation and country,” he conveyed.

Through the tournament, the TNI reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national sports development while promoting the growth of healthy, resilient, disciplined, and high-achieving human resources.
