RRI Marks 81 Years of Service and Digital Transformation

RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - A torch of unity illuminated the auditorium of RRI Yogyakarta Station in Demangan on Friday, September 11, 2026, as the Tri Prasetya torch lighting ceremony connected RRI stations across Indonesia.

Guided live from Jakarta, President Director Ignatius Hendrasmo lit the central torch, followed simultaneously by all RRI work units across the country via Zoom, a symbolic gesture of collective commitment to the broadcaster’s values.

At RRI Yogyakarta Station, employees in traditional attire carried the torch before handing it to Station Head Taufan Pamungkas Marhaendra Jaya, who served as the main torchbearer. The ceremony, followed by the traditional tumpeng cutting, embodied gratitude and solidarity.

The Public Broadcasting Institution Radio Republik Indonesia (LPP RRI) marked its 81st anniversary with the theme “Suara Indonesia Berdaulat, Adil, dan Makmur” (The Voice of Indonesia: Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous), reaffirming its mission as a trusted source of information, education, and social cohesion while embracing digital transformation and inclusivity.

In his national address, President Director Hendrasmo reminded staff of RRI’s enduring pledge. “On this day, across Indonesia, we hold flag‑raising ceremonies to commemorate RRI’s 81st anniversary," he said.

"It is a moment to recall the values contained in Tri Prasetya RRI, our pledge to the nation, and the four national consensuses: Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” he added.

He stressed that transformation is no longer optional but essential. “RRI must continue to move with the times. Transformation is not a choice but a need to ensure RRI remains relevant, trusted, and impactful," he emphasized.

Recent achievements reflecting this shift include: a new logo symbolizing humility and digital adaptability, expansion across multiple platforms, and competency building for more than 1,200 employees.

By 2025, digital reach surged: 78.5 million visitors to rri.co.id, 337,195 users of the RRI Digital app, 107.4 million streaming hits, and 23.37 million social media interactions. RRI also produced over 103,000 news items and engaged 34,000 community groups in broadcasts.

Beyond broadcasting, RRI has supported national development priorities with 18 thematic programs on creative economy, MSMEs, food security, education, health, environment, investment, digital literacy, and national defense.

Coverage expanded with new FM transmitters in Aceh, North Sumatra, Central Java, Central Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, and North Sulawesi, while digital broadcasting strengthened through DAB+ and DRM networks.

Infrastructure optimization reached 84 percent functionality across 768 transmitters, and RRI maintained strong accountability with five consecutive WTP audit opinions and recognition as an informative public body.

At Yogyakarta, Station Head Taufan urged staff to embrace agility and collaboration. “We must not remain stuck in a bureaucratic mindset. Broadcasting must be agile. Let’s innovate. Senior colleagues should give opportunities to juniors, and juniors must respect seniors. Collaboration and cooperation are essential," he stressed.

The celebrations underscored RRI’s dual identity: a state‑funded public institution and a dynamic broadcaster adapting to digital realities.

“Let us continue to innovate, strengthen collaboration, enhance professionalism, and uphold integrity. On RRI’s 81st anniversary, let us bring RRI closer to the people, stronger as a public medium, more adaptive to technology, and greater in its contribution to Indonesia," Hendrasmo concluded. ***
