Indonesia Pushes Faster Disaster Mitigation Through Resilience Investment

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia speeds up disaster mitigation as climate change creates increasingly complex risks. The government promotes resilience investment, inclusive early warnings, and cross-sector collaboration.

Vice Energy Minister, Yuliot outlined the measures at The 5th Asia Disaster Management and Civil Protection Expo & Conference (ADEXCO and GFSR) 2026. The forums took place in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

The events brought together government officials and international organizations. Participants included the United Nations, ASEAN, and Pacific Islands Forum representatives.

Yuliot said disaster risks now reflect interconnected environmental and social pressures. “Every day counts, and delaying disaster risk mitigation means accumulating future casualties," he said.

He then called for disaster risk reduction to become a core development investment. Sustainable resilience and green infrastructure should receive investment beyond operational spending.

Yuliot also urged stronger Early Warnings for All across vulnerable communities. Technical data should become accessible local information for children, disabled people, and indigenous communities.

The government also emphasized stronger cross-border cooperation and multiparty solidarity. Partnerships should involve governments, businesses, academics, nongovernmental organizations, and younger generations.

Yuliot highlighted forest and land fires currently affecting several Indonesian regions. The fires threaten environments, public health, and vital mining, oil, and gas infrastructure.

In addition, the Energy Ministry praised National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB)'s rapid response protecting national strategic facilities. He specifically appreciated efforts addressing fires near Tangguh Bintuni's oil operations.

Through ADEXCO and GFSR 2026, Indonesia seeks practical resilience commitments. The initiatives aim to strengthen public protection against future disaster risks.
