RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia's Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, said information integrity is one of the keys for media organizations to navigate the dominance of global digital platforms and changes in how people consume information. According to him, media organizations such as Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) faces significant challenges as digital platforms and social media increasingly become the main channels for information distribution.

“Information integrity is an important requirement for media organizations in dealing with these platforms,” Nezar said while attending the 81st Anniversary Commemoration Seminar of Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) 2026 at the Yusuf Ronodipuro Auditorium of RRI, Jakarta, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

Nezar Patria said RRI’s transformation into a multiplatform media organization is on the right track, as audiences can now access RRI content not only through radio frequencies but also in the form of audio, images, and text through digital platforms.

However, he conveyed the shift to digital platforms requires a different content strategy because radio audiences and smartphone users have different characteristics.

Nezar explained that distributing content through global platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, Instagram, TikTok, Google, X, and Meta means media organizations must deal with algorithms that are beyond their control.

“Algorithms work with, so to speak, mathematical formulas. If we like certain content, it will keep appearing to us. If we do not read that content, it will not appear to us,” he said.

According to him, this situation can create an echo chamber and filter bubble, in which users are continuously exposed to content that matches their preferences.

Nezar said this poses a particular challenge for RRI, whose strength lies in presenting diverse information and perspectives from across Indonesia.

“If we are trapped in one echo chamber, there is no diversity. This is perhaps what we need to overcome,” he said.
