RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, in coordination with the operator of Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, has carried out cleaning operations at several aviation facilities affected by volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. The measure was taken to ensure flight safety and to keep the facilities safe and ready for use.
The cleaning was carried out at several key and supporting aviation facilities, including the apron, runway, taxiway, and other operational access areas. The activity was conducted on Monday, September 7, 2026, as part of preparedness efforts to address the impact of the volcanic ash fallout.
Commander of Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, First Marshal Ali Gusman, said the cleaning was carried out jointly in areas affected by volcanic ash. He said the measure was part of preparedness efforts to ensure that all aviation facilities remain safe.
“We carried out the cleaning jointly in areas affected by volcanic ash. This measure is part of our preparedness efforts to ensure that all aviation facilities remain safe and ready for use once flight operations are resumed,” Ali Gusman said in a press release on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Ali Gusman explained that the cleaning covered areas essential to aircraft movement and flight operations. The response was carried out in coordination between Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base and the airport operator to ensure that the facilities continue to meet aviation safety requirements.
The coordination is part of mitigation efforts to address the impact of volcanic ash in the airport area. The cleaning of aviation facilities is intended to minimize potential disruptions to flight operations while maintaining the airport's readiness for the possible resumption of flight services.
“Flight safety is our priority in every response measure, including ensuring that aviation facilities remain safe and ready for use,” he explained.
Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base and the airport operator will continue preparedness efforts and ensure that aviation facilities remain in good condition. The measures are expected to support the smooth resumption of flight operations once conditions are declared safe for operations to resume.
