Soekarno-Hatta Resumes Operations as Terminal 1 Reopens

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Soekarno‑Hatta Airport has resumed operations after being closed on Sunday, September 6, 2026, due to the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.

Observations at the Terminal 1 departure area on Tuesday morning, September 8, 2026, showed that activity at the check‑in counters remained relatively quiet. Terminal 1 of Soekarno‑Hatta Airport exclusively serves domestic flights.

However, some passengers began checking in as flights resumed on schedule. Vira, a passenger traveling to Medan, said her previous flight was canceled because of the airport closure.

She explained that she was originally scheduled to depart from Semarang on Sunday, but her flight was canceled because the Jakarta transit point was closed. She later chose a flight via Yogyakarta before continuing her journey to Medan through Soekarno‑Hatta Airport.

“I was originally supposed to leave from Semarang on Sunday, but my flight was canceled because the CGK transit point was still closed. Now I’ve finally arrived at CGK, and my flight to Medan is proceeding according to schedule,” she said in the Terminal 1 departure area of Soekarno‑Hatta Airport in Tangerang on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Before the cancellation, Vira received updates on her flight status through social media and airport‑related applications. She monitored the information closely to track schedule changes following the initial cancellation.

Due to the cancellation, she purchased a new ticket to continue her trip to Medan. She also stayed at an airport hotel after traveling from Yogyakarta to Jakarta.

Vira said airport services were functioning well and that information was readily available to passengers. She felt that updates on flight conditions were being provided as the situation developed.

The check‑in area was not crowded during the observation. Some passengers were completing departure procedures, while many counters remained empty.
