Decent Housing Must be Supported by a Beautiful Environment: Prabowo

RRI.CO.ID, Cibinong – Indonesia’s Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, said in a written statement that the government continues to work to provide more decent and affordable housing for the public. These efforts also include policies to ease access to housing finance so that more people can afford to own a home.

The statement was made after President Prabowo Subianto chaired a closed-door meeting with several ministers in Bogor Regency, West Java, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Topics included the government’s concrete steps to improve housing quality, as well as the residential environments in which people live.

"The meeting discussed efforts to provide more decent and affordable homes, including policies to ease access to housing finance so that more people can own homes," Teddy said.

In addition to expanding access to decent housing, the government is also focusing on the quality of residential environments. Through the Indonesia ASRI Movement, improvements are being carried out comprehensively so people not only have decent homes but also live in healthy and comfortable surroundings.

Prabowo launched the Indonesia ASRI Movement last February during the national coordination meeting of the central and regional governments in Bogor Regency in February 2026. The name "ASRI" in Indonesian means "scenic" or "beautiful", but it is also an acronym for Aman, Sehat, Resik, dan Indah (safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful).

According to him, from 2025 to the present, the home renovation program has reached 400,000 houses. The program is supported by efforts to improve residential environments, including providing and improving clean water, bathing, washing, and toilet facilities; waste management; and efforts to improve environmental cleanliness and appearance.

"Since 2025, the home renovation program has reached 400,000 houses, followed by various efforts to improve environmental quality through the provision and improvement of clean water and sanitation facilities, waste management, as well as improvements in environmental cleanliness and beauty," Teddy said.

Teddy said the government believes that improving housing quality cannot focus solely on the physical condition of buildings. The environment surrounding homes is also an important part of a better quality of life.

"A decent home is not only about the building. Homes must also be located in environments that are clean, healthy, safe, comfortable, well-maintained, and beautiful," Teddy said.

This spirit is at the heart of the Indonesia ASRI Movement, which the government continues to promote. Through the initiative, the development and improvement of residential areas will also continue to take into account the identity and distinctive characteristics of each region.

"This is the spirit of Indonesia ASRI: providing increasingly decent homes and increasingly beautiful environments while continuing to respect the character, culture, and local wisdom of every region," Teddy said.
