The House Urges Accelerated Recovery of Sade Traditional Village

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives’ Commission VIII, Singgih Januratmoko, has called for the accelerated reconstruction of Sade Traditional Village in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

“We are striving to ensure that it is rebuilt within six months so that all activities can resume as normal,” Singgih said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Sade Traditional Village is a Sasak hamlet known for its steadfast preservation of ancestral customs. As one of the oldest traditional villages on Lombok Island, it has long been a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists.

A massive blaze struck the village on Saturday evening, August 22, destroying approximately 150 homes and affecting more than 300 residents.

Singgih stressed that the reconstruction must preserve the character and traditional concepts of Sade Traditional Village, which have been passed down through generations. He said the rebuilding process must follow the original design and involve the indigenous community at every stage.

However, he cautioned that safety must be the top priority during reconstruction. Fire‑mitigation systems must be evaluated jointly by the national government, local administrations, and the indigenous community.

He noted that traditional buildings in Sade largely use flammable materials, making adequate safety systems essential. Improvements are needed in electrical installations and the use of open flames to reduce fire risks.

Beyond physical recovery, Singgih emphasized that the community’s economic recovery must also be part of the post‑fire response. Many resident‑owned businesses were affected, requiring support to ensure economic activities can resume quickly.

Singgih urged the National Alms Agency (Baznas) to provide productive assistance to residents who lost their businesses. He hopes reconstruction can begin immediately so that daily activities and the local economy can recover. (Gusti Panji)
