Jakarta Police Deploy 18,504 Personnel to Secure Protests in Central Jakarta

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) deployed 18,504 personnel to secure and provide public services during protests at several locations in Central Jakarta on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The security operation is being carried out using a humane and persuasive approach to ensure the demonstrations remain safe, orderly, and peaceful.

Central Jakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung, said security measures had been in place since 7 a.m. local time, involving senior police officials and field commanders. Personnel were deployed at several locations to anticipate crowd concentrations while ensuring that public activities could continue.

“Security measures began at 7 a.m., involving several senior officials and field commanders,” Reynold said in an official statement in Jakarta on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Security operations in Central Jakarta have been divided into six zones, covering areas including the Ring 1 area around the DPR/MPR complex, the vicinity of the Semanggi Flyover, the TVRI and Asia Afrika areas, Gerbang Pancasila, Palmerah to the LHK Building, as well as the BPK RI, Lorong Warga, and Ladokgi Atas areas. Personnel have also been stationed at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout and Dukuh Atas to anticipate crowd movements.

Reynold emphasized that personnel assigned to the operation would not carry firearms or bladed weapons. The policy is part of the police's efforts to prioritize a humane and persuasive approach in providing services and securing the demonstrations.

Traffic personnel have also been deployed to manage traffic and implement situational traffic diversions. Traffic will be diverted if congestion occurs or protesters block certain roads.

“We are here to provide a sense of safety and comfort to everyone expressing their aspirations. We prioritize a humane approach, communication, and persuasion in serving the public,” Reynold said.
