RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia is strengthening its performance as a member of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) by building a foundation for risk assessment and data on money laundering, terrorist financing, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

These efforts support preparations for the 2029–2030 FATF Mutual Evaluation Review (MER) and aim to maintain Indonesia’s standing as a FATF member.

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Affairs, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, said Indonesia has shown positive progress since officially becoming the 40th FATF member in 2023.

“Our position has improved quite well year‑on‑year; there are no negative aspects, the assessments are positive, and we are obligated to maintain this,” Minister Yusril said during the launch of the National Risk Assessment (NRA) in Jakarta on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

However, he stressed that maintaining positive performance is not enough. Ministries and agencies involved in the AML/CFT (Anti‑Money Laundering/Countering the Financing of Terrorism) regime must continue improving their efforts to combat these crimes.

As part of this initiative, the government launched three 2026 National Risk Assessment (NRA) documents covering money laundering, terrorist financing, and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

These documents identify threats, vulnerabilities, and risks facing Indonesia and determine which sectors require greater resources. Minister Yusril said the NRA is crucial to national policy and supports legal and bureaucratic reforms prioritized by the President.

“The President also emphasized our efforts to combat drug smuggling and related issues,” he said.

He added that preventing and eradicating TPPU, TPPT, and PPSPM are vital components of legal reform. Strengthened inter‑ministerial and inter‑agency coordination is needed to improve Indonesia’s standing as an FATF member.

Head of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), Ivan Yustiavandana, said the three NRA documents are essential for demonstrating Indonesia’s level of compliance with FATF recommendations.

The NRAs were compiled in collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies under government coordination. Ivan said they also lay the groundwork for Indonesia’s preparation for the 2029 FATF evaluation.

“We are ready to face the subsequent FATF review in 2029, which will rely on the data we generate between 2025 and 2029,” he said.

He explained that a database tracking the handling of TPPU, TPPT, and PPSPM cases from 2025 to 2029 will support readiness for the 2029 FATF MER. This data will serve as evidence of Indonesia’s performance in implementing FATF standards.

Ivan noted that the AML/CFT regime’s progress reflects strong collaboration among ministries and agencies. By improving databases, risk mapping, and interagency coordination, Indonesia aims to sustain its achievements as a FATF member. ***
