Government Ensures Recovery Support for Vulnerable Groups after NTT Earthquake

RRI.CO.ID, East Nusa Tenggara - Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, has assured that vulnerable groups, particularly women, children, older people, and pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, will receive attention and assistance tailored to their specific needs during the post-earthquake recovery process in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

“The Government will continue to oversee the recovery process by ensuring that survivors feel safe and receive psychosocial support according to their needs. We want to encourage and pray for them. We are one big family, united by our care for our fellow citizens,” Arifah said in a press statement received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

She made the statement while visiting a Ministry of Social Affairs post sheltering several earthquake survivors from East Manggarai Regency. The survivors had previously been flown to Labuan Bajo to receive intensive medical treatment and access to more adequate recovery facilities.

During the visit, Arifah provided crutches to a woman who was having difficulty walking due to injuries sustained in the earthquake. She also distributed toys to children affected by the disaster, including a child with a broken bone, as part of psychosocial support during their recovery.

“We were informed that there was a mother who could not walk, so we brought her a walking aid. There were also children with broken bones, so we brought them toys so they would not spend all their time on gadgets and could resume other activities,” the Minister said.

After visiting the evacuation post, Arifah continued her visit to Komodo Regional General Hospital in Labuan Bajo to directly assess the condition of earthquake survivors who were still receiving medical treatment.

One of the female earthquake survivors, 43-year-old Adelina Jelinda, expressed her gratitude for Arifah’s visit and the attention provided by the ministry team. She hoped the needs and concerns of earthquake survivors would continue to receive attention throughout the recovery process.

“I am happy that the Minister visited us. I am very grateful for the arrival of the ministry team. I hope our concerns and needs as earthquake survivors will continue to be addressed. We thank the Minister. May she stay healthy and be blessed,” she stated.
