RRI.CO.ID, West Manggarai - The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) earthquake death toll rose to 71 people. One additional death was recorded in Nagekeo Regency.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported the latest emergency response developments on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The update covered conditions as of 4 pm Western Indonesian Standard Time.
The report mentioned air distribution continued through air and sea routes until Tuesday. "Some 398 tons of relief packages have been distributed in 15-18 August," BNPB said.
Land routes remained the primary option for reaching evacuation locations. Distribution followed geographical conditions and road access to evacuation points.
The government also optimized sea transportation to reach wider areas. KRI Bung Hatta departed Labuan Bajo for Reok Port Tuesday.
The vessel carried staple packages, family tents, and refugee tents from BNPB. Additional assistance came from various community groups supporting affected residents.
Evacuee assistance remained a major focus amid damaged buildings and aftershock concerns. Updated data recorded 59,647 evacuees across affected areas Wednesday afternoon.
Manggarai Regency recorded the highest number, reaching 20,333 evacuees. Authorities continued providing food, clean water, tents, mattresses, blankets, and healthcare.
Authorities also addressed sanitation and vulnerable groups at evacuation locations. These groups included children, elderly people, pregnant women, and people with disabilities.
Because evacuees remain dispersed, assistance extends beyond centralized evacuation sites. Authorities are gradually collecting data and distributing aid to independent shelters.
Regional governments were encouraged to strengthen command posts and task forces. The measure aims to ensure needs are accurately recorded and appropriately addressed.
National resources, including military and police personnel, were deployed to accelerate emergency response. Aircraft and military vessels supported personnel, logistics, healthcare, and access to isolated areas.
BNPB affirmed that all resources aim to accelerate services for affected communities. The agency said support would continue according to conditions and emerging needs.
