Indonesian Law Minister Highlights Digital Solutions for Good Governance

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas stated that digital governance is the best solution for preventing corruption. He made this statement in response to President Prabowo Subianto's directives regarding the eradication and prevention of corruption.

In his speech, President Subianto emphasized that corruption is an enemy of the nation that must be confronted through good governance. He stated that eradication efforts should not rely solely on punishment, but also on strengthening prevention systems.

"His message is clear: corruption is an enemy of the nation," said Minister Supratman after attending the 2026 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), and the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) in Jakarta on Friday, August 14, 2026.

He said the President emphasizes using a digital-based governance system and the government needs to make regulations to deter corruption. "That is why the President frequently states that one of the best ways to reduce corruption, even if we cannot eliminate it entirely, is to implement a digital governance system," he said.

Regarding the proposal for an ad hoc court, Minister Supratman emphasized that the government has not discussed the establishment of such a specialized body, and that the President's remarks concerning an ad hoc court were made to prevent and eradicate corruption.

He also assessed that the idea of an ad hoc court was a general message regarding corruption prevention and eradication for all state institutions, not just for state enterprises (BUMNs). He noted that the government has yet to discuss creating such a specialized institution.

"Not yet. I would say the context of the President's remarks was the effort to prevent and eradicate corruption. He spoke in general terms, but if we are subsequently instructed to do so, we are certainly ready to carry it out," he said.

He also gave an update on the Asset Recovery Bill, an initiative of the House of Representatives (DPR RI). He said the government is awaiting the House's formal proposal before discussing the matter with the relevant ministries.

According to him, the President has directed that the Asset Recovery Bill be finalized promptly through collaboration between the government and the House of Representatives. He confirmed that the Ministry of Law is prepared to deliberate on the regulation once the House submits its proposal. (Misni Parjiati)
