RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi Regency - The Danantara Indonesia Investment Management Agency (BPI) is preparing an affordable financing scheme for the purchase of National Electric Motorcycles (Molinas), including lower interest rates, longer tenors, and options for zero percent down payment. The scheme is aimed at encouraging the public to switch to electric vehicles while also accelerating the growth of the domestic electric motorcycle industry.
CEO of Danantara and Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, Rosan Roeslani, said that the financing will be facilitated by banks and financial institutions within the Danantara ecosystem. According to him, financial support is needed so that electric motorcycles become more accessible to the public.
"We will try to reduce (the down payment), even we will try to eliminate it, so that public interest in buying these electric motorcycles can proceed quickly and well, and we have the ability to accelerate the production of national electric motorcycles in Indonesia," Rosan said, Thursday, August 13, 2026.
He said the potential market for electric motorcycles in Indonesia is still very large. Currently, there are around 140 million gasoline-powered motorcycles, with sales of about 6–7 million units per year.
From that number, national electric motorcycle sales have only reached around 60 thousand to 70 thousand units per year, or about one percent of total motorcycle sales. Danantara estimates that the potential market for electric two-wheeled vehicles in Indonesia could reach around 170 billion US dollars.
According to him, the increase in more affordable financing is expected to accelerate public interest while also boosting the national electric motorcycle production capacity.
"Of course, within Danantara, we have also spoken with all the banks and financial institutions under Danantara, that we are ready to support our banking sector to provide funding with lower interest rates and longer terms," he mentioned.
On the industrial side, the development of the National Electric Motorcycle is also supported by around 10 national companies that produce battery-based two-wheeled vehicles and have met the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) requirements. Strengthening financing and industrial capacity is expected to expand the use of electric motorcycles while also enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesia's electric vehicle industry at the regional and global levels.
