Indonesia’s Halal Agency Strengthens Regional Oversight Ahead of 2026 Policy

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Ahead of the implementation of the Mandatory Halal policy on October 18, 2026, Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) is strengthening its readiness for regional Halal Product Assurance (JPH) oversight. Reinforcing oversight personnel is expected to ensure the effective implementation of the policy.

“Strengthening regional JPH supervisors will make JPH oversight more effective and ensure business operators comply with regulations,” said BPJPH Principal Secretary Muhammad Aqil Irham. The statement was received in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, as reported by Antara.

He said that strengthening JPH human resources is intended not only to ensure proper administration of halal product assurance, but also to support the monitoring of business operators’ compliance with their legal obligations.

“With competent supervision, oversight can ensure business obligations are fulfilled for public protection,” he said.

Aqil emphasized that JPH oversight requires personnel who are competent, ethical, and professional. Supervisors must carry out their duties objectively, effectively, and responsibly.

BPJPH is also preparing regulatory measures to support the enforcement of JPH provisions, including BPJPH Regulation No. 2/2026 on Administrative Sanctions for Violations in Halal Product Assurance Administration.

Enacted on June 5, 2026, by the Ministry of Law, the regulation serves as a guideline for administrative law enforcement in the Halal Product Assurance (JPH) sector.
