Prabowo Nominates Destry Damayanti as Sole Candidate for BI Governor

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Minister of State Secretariat, Prasetyo Hadi, said President Prabowo Subianto has nominated Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate to lead the country’s central bank. She is currently the Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia after the previous governor, Perry Warjiyo, stepped down.

Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, Minister Prasetyo said Prabowo had submitted a presidential letter about the nomination to the House of Representatives (DPR). This allows its members to conduct a fit-and-proper test and announce whether Destry will be approved as Governor of Bank Indonesia.

“So, there is only one name, namely Ms. Destry Damayanti, who currently serves as the acting governor,” Prasetyo told reporters.

Prasetyo also said that the DPR speakers would announce the government’s proposal “tomorrow,” which is Tuesday, August 11, 2026. However, as of Tuesday afternoon Jakarta time, the House had yet to issue any statement regarding the proposal.

“Tomorrow, the DPR leadership will officially announce it to the media and the public,” he said, adding that the DPR is formally authorized to announce the government’s proposal.

Destry is an economist who has served as Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia since 2019. She has previously worked at several Indonesian banks and has even been appointed as a member of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) Supervisory Board.

If selected, Destry will replace Perry Warjiyo, who resigned at the end of July for personal reasons. Perry is the first governor to resign throughout the central bank's history.
