RRI.CO.ID, Makassar - The Ministry of Manpower enhances the national Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) ecosystem thru the transformation of OSH Centers as part of efforts to increase worker protection. This step is taken to address the challenges of the modern industry while also building a safer, healthier, and more productive work culture in Indonesia.

Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, said that the transformation of OHS management must be oriented toward protecting workers, not just fulfilling administrative requirements.

"The challenges of the modern industry demand a transformation in OHS management that is no longer merely administrative, but touches the essence of protecting workers' lives," Yassierli said while giving directions to the employes of the Makassar OHS Center in South Sulawesi, Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

According to the Minister, strengthening the OSH ecosystem has become increasingly urgent considering the still high number of work accidents in Indonesia. Based on data from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (Social Security Administrator), throughout 2025, there were 319,224 recorded work accident claims, 158 claims for occupational diseases, 9,834 cases of death, and 4,133 cases of functional or total disability. He also highlighted the limited number of labor inspectors and the suboptimal national OHS data system.

"The low number of occupational diseases in Indonesia is not because there are few cases, but because the recording system is not yet optimal in detecting them," he said.

To address this challenge, the Ministry of Manpower will strengthen the role of the OHS Center thru data-based industrial risk mapping, the expansion of education on the implementation of the OHS Management System, the enhancement of supervision and technical testing standards, as well as strengthening collaboration with local governments, OHS service companies, industrial zones, and universities.

Thru this transformation, the OHS Center is expected to develop not only as a technical testing institution but also as a center for the development of occupational safety and health that can support industrial productivity and strengthen the protection of Indonesian workers amidst the ever-evolving dynamics of the workforce.
