RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded Indonesia's Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) in July 2026 at 127.84, an increase of 0.15 percent compared to June 2026. The increase indicates that farmers' purchasing power remains stable because the decrease in costs incurred by farmers is greater than the decrease in agricultural product prices.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, said that the increase in the NTP occurred because the Price Index Paid by farmers fell more significantly compared to the Price Index Received. "The Farmer Exchange Rate in July 2026 was recorded at 127.84 or an increase of 0.15 percent compared to June 2026." The increase in the NTP occurred because the index of prices received by farmers fell by 0.10 percent, while the index of prices paid by farmers fell more significantly, by 0.25 percent," Ateng said in the Official Statistical News BPS in Jakarta, Monday, August 3, 2026.

BPS mentioned that the NTP is an indicator that reflects the purchasing power or ability of farmers. The higher the NTP, the better the farmers' ability to meet household consumption needs and agricultural production costs.

The increase in the national NTP in July was supported by the subsector of people's plantation crops, which rose by 1.67 percent, followed by food crops at 1.32 percent. This increase was driven by the strengthening of commodity prices such as cocoa, palm oil, rice, and secondary crops.

Cumulatively, from January to July 2026, the national NTP reached 126.13, an increase of 2.98 percent compared to the same period the previous year. A total of 26 out of 38 provinces also recorded an increase in NTP, with Southeast Sulawesi being the province with the highest increase, at 8.89 percent.

Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, said the government continues to implement various programs to increase productivity while strengthening farmers' welfare thru the enhancement of the economic value of agricultural products.

"We want farmers to become more prosperous. The government is not only focused on increasing production but also ensuring that production results have better economic value. When productivity rises and farmers' prices improve, the welfare of farmers will increase," The minister stated.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, various programs such as increasing planting areas, optimizing land use, rehabilitating irrigation, providing superior seeds, assisting with agricultural tools and machinery, and strengthening farmer assistance will continue to be reinforced to maintain productivity, commodity price stability, and national food security.
