RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has deployed 1,476 members of the Patriot Expedition Team 2026 from 10 universities to conduct research, studies, and technology-based assistance in 53 transmigration areas. The program is part of efforts to strengthen regional development thru collaboration between the government, universities, and the community.
The Head of the Government Communication Agency, Muhammad Qodari, stated that the program is a continuation of the Patriot Expedition Team 2025, which involves around 2,000 participants. This year, the team will conduct various research and assistance in the transmigration areas, from South Papua to the Riau Islands.
"Through this collaboration, the state is present to develop transmigration areas thru the power of science, partnering with the nation's best academics and students as fieldwork partners," Qodari said in his statement, Monday, August 3, 2026.
A total of 10 universities participated in the program, namely Universitas Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Institut Pertanian Bogor, Universitas Diponegoro, Universitas Padjadjaran, Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Brawijaya, and Universitas Hasanuddin. The universities collaborate in the participant selection process, academic mentoring, and the implementation of field research.
Each university is responsible for assisting the transmigration areas according to its assigned location. This program also raises 11 research themes, ranging from agrarian reform, local economic development, industrial downstreaming, to renewable energy as the basis for formulating development policy recommendations.
The government is also giving special attention to development in Papua by strengthening support in 10 transmigration areas. The increase in the number of teams in the region is part of efforts to accelerate development and improve community welfare thru a research-based approach.
"The state ensures that the research results of the Patriot Expedition Team become a basis for policy recommendations that are followed up sustainably, not a one-time project. The research results will serve as a foundation for the emergence of targeted, impactful, and sustainable policies for the community," he explained.
Thru the collaboration of the government, higher education institutions, and the community, the Patriot Expedition Team is expected to produce evidence-based recommendations that can support the planning and development of transmigration areas while also encouraging the emergence of new economic growth centers in various regions of Indonesia.
