RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Amid rising global geopolitical tensions, Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to an independent and active foreign policy by maintaining a non‑aligned position.

President Prabowo Subianto said the principle, inherited from the nation’s founders, remains the foundation of Indonesian diplomacy in building relations with other countries.

He made the statement during a meeting with business leaders from the Central and Regional Indonesian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday, July 31, 2026.

“Our nation’s founders built a legacy of non‑aligned foreign policy, and we remain steadfast in this commitment,” President Prabowo said, as quoted by Antara.

He acknowledged that several border issues in Southeast Asia are legacies of the colonial era, stressing that disputes must be resolved through dialogue and peaceful means. While recognizing that settlement is not always easy due to competing interests, President Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia must act with wisdom and avoid provocation.

“I realize that Indonesia is the largest country, so we must be wiser and more patient. We must not be provoked. That is what we inherited: non‑alignment,” he said.

President Prabowo reiterated that Indonesia will maintain good relations with major countries without taking sides. This neutral stance, he said, is part of Indonesia’s strategy to safeguard regional stability and contribute to peace amid global conflicts and uncertainties. ***
