Indonesia, China Deepen Trade and Investment Ties

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and China reinforced their commitment to stronger economic cooperation during high-level talks in Jakarta on Thursday, 30 July 2026. The meeting highlighted efforts to expand bilateral trade, investment, and industrial partnerships with greater value-added opportunities.

According to a written statement, Trade Minister Budi Santoso received a business delegation from Jiangsu Province, China. The delegation was led by National Management Committee Chairman Lijun Zhang and included representatives from Chinese businesses.

During the meeting, Minister Budi Santoso affirmed Indonesia welcomed cooperative initiatives generating broader economic benefits for both countries. He said the government remained open to partnerships involving technology transfer, local supplier development, job creation, and enhancing export capacity.

“Various policies issued by the government, including those in the trade sector, are intended to ensure transparency and provide legal certainty for entrepreneurs," he said. The minister further affirmed Indonesia is also very open to investment as well as various basis for formulating policies to create a favorable business climate.

One concrete outcome from the discussion was Chinese interest in investing in Indonesia’s horticulture sector and supply chain development. The proposed investment would focus on premium commodities including durian, avocado, mangosteen, and red dragon fruit.

The plan includes establishing direct procurement systems, pre-cooling facilities, sorting centers, and cold storage warehouses across Indonesia. Santoso welcomed the proposal and pledged to facilitate communication between Chinese investors and relevant Indonesian stakeholders to accelerate cooperation.

He said horticulture investment was important not only for improving domestic agricultural production, but also for strengthening Indonesia’s export performance. The government wants abundant Indonesian produce absorbed through export channels while building stronger international market access.

Chinese delegation representative and ONC Lawyers Partner Management, Sherman Yan, said the visit aimed at building long-term partnerships aligned with Indonesia’s economic development priorities. Besides investment, Chinese companies also expressed interest in supporting Indonesian micro, small, and medium businesses, technology transfer initiatives, and increasing the added value of Indonesian products for global markets.
