RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Trade Ministry held an online export development coordination forum on Thursday, 30 July 2026. The forum focused on the regional export potential of Sulawesi, Papua, and Maluku.
The forum formed part of efforts to strengthen regional export ecosystems nationwide. It also aimed to foster new exporters from eastern Indonesia.
Trade Ministry's National Export Development Director General Fajarini Puntodewi highlighted regional approaches. She said export strategies should reflect each region’s unique potential.
“As an example, Sulawesi, Papua, and Maluku have export potential and opportunities to develop various value-added products increasingly demanded by global markets,” said Puntodewi in a press release.
Puntodewi explained forum recommendations would improve future export development programs. The ministry will strengthen promotion, market information, and business matching services.
Regional officials and business representatives discussed challenges facing export expansion efforts. Key issues included certification requirements, product quality, infrastructure, and promotion.
Southwest Papua official Winarsih said local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) products continue improving steadily. However, businesses still require support to meet export standards and certifications.
“We continue encouraging Papua MSMEs to enter export markets. Product quality and packaging have improved, but certification requirements and supporting facilities remain challenging,” said Winarsih.
Central Sulawesi officials reported positive export growth across several economic sectors. Non-mining exports, including durian and coconut products, increased significantly recently.
