RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is focusing discussions on the technical readiness to implement the policy of capping ride‑hailing platform (ojol) commissions at a maximum of 8 percent. The move aims to ensure effective, consistent implementation and provide certainty for all stakeholders.

Manpower Minister Yassierli said the 8 percent commission scheme for app providers and 92 percent for driver‑partners has been in effect since July 1, 2026, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive.

Previously, ride‑hailing platforms applied commission cuts of up to 20 percent, before the new regulation reduced the maximum to 8 percent.

“In accordance with what was conveyed by the House of Representatives Speaker on July 23, the implementation of the 8 percent commission sharing scheme has been in effect since July 1, 2026. This is in accordance with what the President conveyed,” Minister Yassierli said after opening the AI Career Boost Day 2026 job fair in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He explained that the government is prioritizing alignment of technical aspects, including a common understanding among ministries and uniform implementation mechanisms. A coordination meeting was held on July 23 to discuss policy details and ensure implementation aligns with established provisions and objectives.

“Cross‑ministerial coordination is still necessary because the technical regulations involve several agencies. This step is crucial to ensure the process does not encounter obstacles in the field,” Minister Yassierli said.

From the business perspective, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that most ride‑hailing companies have expressed readiness to implement the commission cap. However, each platform requires technical adjustments in its internal operations.

“For services like Grab, GoTo, and Maxim, it seems they’re ready. Of course, with the new balance, there will be adjustments from each platform provider,” he said.

Meanwhile, regulatory refinement is ongoing. The House of Representatives (DPR), together with the government, is finalizing a draft presidential regulation (Perpres) on online ride‑hailing, with completion expected soon.

DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said a coordination meeting with ministries, agencies, and representatives of the National Online Motorcycle Taxi Coalition (Ojol) agreed to hold one more follow‑up meeting before finalization.

He added that the DPR also received input from driver representatives to ensure the regulation can be implemented effectively and provide certainty for both drivers and app providers. ***
