RRI.CO.ID, Nusantara - Indonesia's future capital, Nusantara, is beginning to illustrate how urban planning can reshape everyday life, with shorter commutes, walkable neighborhoods, and integrated public facilities improving residents' quality of life. As more civil servants and workers settle in the city, the government's vision of a people-centered and livable capital is gradually taking shape.
According to a statement received by RRI Voice of Indonesia in Jakarta on Saturday, 25 July 2026, the transformation is evident each afternoon in the Core Government Area (KIPP), where employees leave their offices and board free city buses for the short journey home. Instead of spending hours in traffic, many residents now reach their homes in around ten minutes, leaving more time for family, recreation, and community activities.
For Mirfa, a civil servant with the Nusantara Capital Authority who has lived in the city for the past year, the biggest change has been the new rhythm of daily life. "After work, I used to feel exhausted because of the long commute. Now I still have time to go jogging or join badminton practice. It feels like the day doesn't really end when office hours are over," she said.
The experience is shared by employees from various government institutions and private companies who now live in Nusantara. The growing availability of housing, green open spaces, sports venues, healthcare services, and dining areas is creating an environment where homes, workplaces, and public amenities are located within close proximity.
The city's design emphasizes walkability and sustainable mobility by connecting residential areas, office districts, commercial centers, and public facilities through pedestrian paths and cycling lanes. The integrated layout enables residents to complete many daily activities without relying heavily on private vehicles.
According to residents, the shorter commute has brought benefits beyond convenience by giving them more personal time. Hours once spent in traffic can now be used for outdoor exercise, gardening activities, cycling, spending quality time with family, or simply enjoying the city's public spaces before sunset.
On weekends, Mirfa often walks with her family through the city's open spaces, where they enjoy the surroundings near the Garuda Palace. "I hope more facilities will continue to be developed. The pedestrian paths are becoming more connected, and it's very pleasant to take an evening walk while enjoying the sunset behind Garuda Palace and breathing the clean air in Nusantara," she said.
As Nusantara continues to expand, new roads, public services, and economic activities are steadily emerging. Beyond its physical infrastructure, the city is also fostering a different way of life—one that prioritizes accessibility, cleaner air, stronger community connections, and a healthier balance between work and personal life for its growing population.
