RRI.CO.ID, Tebing Tinggi - Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is strengthening research-based regional development through collaboration with local governments. The initiative was addressed in Tebing Tinggi, North Sumatra, on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.

The collaboration focuses on utilizing research outcomes as a foundation for development policies. BRIN supported the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Commission X working visit and regional research coordination.

Deputy for Regional Research and Innovation at BRIN, Yopi, said BRIN identified three strategic issues alongside Tebing Tinggi City Government. The issues include micro, small, and medium enterprise development, waste management, and enhancing regional revenue.

He said the issues have strong potential to be addressed through research and innovation approaches. BRIN also reported 11 cooperation agreements with local governments across North Sumatra.

Yopi highlighted BRIN’s commitment to supporting evidence-based policy through research recommendations. He explained that the agency provides policy support to help regions optimize their potential.

“The handover of this book is a manifestation of BRIN's commitment to presenting policy recommendations that can be utilized by local governments. This is to optimize regional potential and answer various development challenges more effectively,” he said.

BRIN also coordinated with Tebing Tinggi’s Regional Development Planning Agency to strengthen research governance. The agency encouraged cooperation agreements and accelerated the establishment of regional research and innovation agencies.

BRIN researchers assigned to the Medan City Regional Research and Innovation Agency also explored ways to optimize research impact. The effort aims to strengthen local research capacity and produce innovations with real impacts for development.
