RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Social Affairs, continues to promote the economic empowerment of people with visual impairments. As part of the effort, it is strengthening support for the Indonesian Blind Union (Pertuni) through improved facilities, training programs, and expanded business development opportunities.

As quoted by the official website of the Ministry of Social Affairs on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Indonesia's Social Affairs Minister, Saifullah Yusuf, said the government will help upgrade Pertuni's facilities as part of efforts to enhance the economic independence of people with visual impairments.

"Pertuni already has a building. The building is ready; it just needs additional facilities," he said.

He explained that the government's support extends beyond providing facilities and skills training. It also includes social rehabilitation and economic empowerment programs aimed at giving people with disabilities greater opportunities to develop independent businesses.

"Empowerment programs help expand their assets and access, while their capabilities will be strengthened through the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation," he said.

Meanwhile, Pertuni Chairperson Setiawan Gema Budi said the government's support has benefited the organization's members, including through a massage and reflexology training program for people with visual impairments that was conducted in stages from April to June 2026.

"Over the past two years, the Ministry of Social Affairs has been very supportive of empowerment programs for people with visual impairments," Setiawan said.

In addition to the training programs, the government is also supporting the Pertuni National Workshop, scheduled to take place on November 3–5, 2026, in South Jakarta. The assistance includes various logistical needs, such as accommodation, meals, transportation, and other event facilities.
