RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian House of Representatives member, Mahfudz Abdurrahman ,has called for prioritizing the handling of victims of the commuter line (KRL) accident at Bekasi Timur Station, along with a comprehensive evaluation of the Bekasi rail line. He also expressed deep condolences over the incident that occurred on Monday, April 27, 2026 night.

“This is a tragedy for our community. Many of the victims are Bekasi residents who rely on the KRL daily for work and activities. We deeply mourn this incident,” Mahfudz said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He noted that, as an area with high commuter mobility, safety aspects on the Bekasi rail line must be given serious attention. According to him, the current priority should be handling the victims, both those who died and those who were injured, including ensuring evacuation, medical treatment, and assistance for victims’ families are carried out optimally.

“Ensure that all victims receive the best possible care. Families must also be given clear information and proper assistance,” he said.

Mahfudz affirmed his commitment to overseeing the fulfillment of victims’ rights, including compensation and recovery guarantees. He also urged a thorough and transparent investigation into the condition of the rail line and operational systems in the busy Bekasi corridor.

“The Bekasi line is a busy route with high intensity. A serious and comprehensive evaluation must be carried out to prevent such incidents from recurring,” he added.

Amid the mourning, Mahfudz also called on all parties to maintain a conducive atmosphere and prioritize empathy in public communication.

“The people of Bekasi are grieving. Let us keep the situation calm, avoid speculation, and focus on handling and solutions,” he said.

He hopes the incident will serve as momentum to strengthen a safer transportation system that better serves the needs of the public, especially commuters in the Bekasi area.
