Train Collision at Bekasi Timur Leaves 14 Dead, 84 Injured

RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi – State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has expressed its deepest condolences following the train collision at Bekasi Timur Station, West Java, on Monday, April 27, 2026. As of Tuesday morning, April 28, at 8:45 a.m. Jakarta time, 14 people were confirmed dead and 84 others injured.

KAI extended condolences to the victims and their families, while also expressing concern for those injured and receiving intensive medical care. From the outset, efforts have focused on assisting victims and prioritizing passenger safety. Evacuation was carried out carefully, as several victims required specialized medical attention at the scene.

Medical teams, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), KAI, and other relevant parties coordinated closely to provide assistance. All medical and safety considerations were taken to ensure the response ran optimally.

KAI confirmed that all victims are receiving the highest level of care at facilities prepared by the relevant parties. Medical expenses for the injured and funeral costs for the deceased are covered by insurance in conjunction with KAI.

Deputy Minister of Transportation, Suntana, said all relevant parties continue to handle the situation intensively. The ministry, together with KAI and Basarnas, is committed to providing regular updates to the public.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that the fatalities have been taken to the Kramat Jati National Police Hospital for identification, while 84 injured victims are being treated at nearby hospitals, including regency-owned public hospital RSUD Bekasi, RS Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bakti Kartini, and RS Siloam Bekasi Timur.

Passengers’ belongings found at the scene have been secured by personnel, with an inventory conducted in collaboration with the National Police to support identification and victims’ ongoing care needs.

KAI has set up an Emergency Response Center and an Information Center at Bekasi Timur Station for victims’ families. Families can obtain information by contacting the KAI Contact Center at 121 or visiting the centers.

For the time being, Bekasi Timur Station is not serving boarding or alighting passengers until the situation is deemed safe. Commuter line services operate only up to Bekasi Station, while the downstream track remains open for limited train operations.
