RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is strengthening the financing foundation of the creative industry by leveraging intellectual property (IP) as an economic instrument. The initiative is seen as crucial for expanding access to funding and enhancing the global competitiveness of creative businesses.

Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya emphasized the vital role of professional associations in supporting the national creative economy ecosystem. The inauguration of 64 IP valuators in February 2026 marked a strategic milestone in transforming creative works into economically valuable assets.

“Creative works can now be treated as assets thanks to IP valuators, rather than merely as works of art. This will be especially useful in opening up access to funding,” Minister Riefky said during the halal bihalal gathering of the Indonesian Professional Valuators Association (MAPPI) in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 9, 2026, as quoted from the ministry’s official website.

He explained that strengthening the creative economy requires a comprehensive approach, encompassing regulations, raising industry awareness, and improving the quality of business actors. These efforts aim to ensure sustainable growth and generate economic value.

“Simply put, the ministry’s task is to foster local heroes to rise to the national level. Next, we will curate them to become national champions that are competitive globally,” Minister Riefky said.

The ministry is also promoting cross-sector collaboration to increase the creative economy’s contribution to investment, trade, and job creation. Collaboration between the government and stakeholders is expected to strengthen an innovation-based ecosystem and accelerate the growth of the national creative industry. ***
