RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening child protection in the digital space by enforcing new regulations. Two global platforms, X and Bigo Live, have been recognized for demonstrating concrete compliance with the requirements.

Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said the cooperative stance of both platforms reflects the industry’s seriousness in safeguarding child users. The compliance refers to Government Regulation No. 17/2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP TUNAS).

“We appreciate the platforms that have been fully cooperative in fulfilling their compliance obligations, namely X and Bigo Live,” Minister Meutya said at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday, March 27, 2026, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.

X has raised its minimum user age to 16, as stated on its help center page, and has begun identifying and deactivating underage accounts since March 28.

Bigo Live has set its minimum age at 18, outlined in its user agreement and privacy policy, and strengthened its monitoring system through multi-layered moderation that combines artificial intelligence with human oversight to address underage accounts.

According to Minister Meutya, these steps demonstrate that global technology companies can align their internal policies with Indonesian regulations quickly and responsibly. She emphasized that compliance must go beyond administrative commitments and be implemented through measurable system changes.

“The government has instructed all digital platforms operating in Indonesia to immediately align their products, features, and services with applicable regulations. I emphasize that there will be no compromise on compliance for operating in Indonesia,” she said.

The government stressed that the compliance demonstrated by X and Bigo Live should serve as a minimum standard for all platforms. Daily monitoring is being conducted to ensure that commitments are translated into concrete actions.

For platforms that have not yet met the requirements, the government has prepared an escalation mechanism and will take firm administrative measures to ensure Indonesia’s digital ecosystem remains safe and child-friendly. ***
