RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: Indonesia’s National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) is extending support to vulnerable families ahead of Ramadan. The assistance includes Family Logistics Packages and financial aid for low-income residents. The distribution was carried out in Tangerang City, Banten.
The initiative targets households with unstable daily income. Many beneficiaries work in informal sectors such as daily labor and small-scale trading. These groups are often the most affected by rising living costs.
Head of Distribution and Utilization at BAZNAS, Saidah Sakwan, said the program is designed to ease financial pressure before Ramadan. In a written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/2/2026), she highlighted that food prices often surge before the fasting month. Support is therefore crucial during this period.
“We are fully aware that ahead of Ramadan or Eid, market prices usually rise. BAZNAS is present in Tangerang so daily workers and small traders do not feel alone in facing these difficult conditions.” she said.
Saidah noted that the Family Logistics Package is not merely a food aid program. It is meant to ensure basic household needs remain fulfilled during Ramadan. This allows families to observe fasting without worrying about daily meals.
She emphasized that zakat must respond to real needs on the ground. Many low-income families face rising urban living costs alongside uncertain earnings. Timely support can help reduce their burden.
“This is part of BAZNAS’ commitment to ensure zakat delivers tangible benefits, especially ahead of Ramadan.” she added.
Saidah also confirmed that assistance is distributed through careful data verification. This helps ensure the support reaches the right recipients. Proper targeting increases the impact of zakat programs.
Meanwhile, one recipient, Yuyun from Benda District, Tangerang, works as a laundry helper. Her income is unpredictable and she lives in a modest rented home. The assistance helps her prepare more calmly for Ramadan.
Another beneficiary, Lina from Ciledug, earns a living by selling rice meals each morning. She said the support helps meet her family’s kitchen needs. The aid provides relief as Ramadan approaches.
