RRI.CO.ID, Central Lombok - InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is strengthening its push to position The Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara as a holistic destination by embedding Sasak cultural heritage into the resort area’s broader sport and lifestyle offerings.
Speaking in Central Lombok on Sunday, August 23, 2026, ITDC Acting President Director Ahmad Fajar revealed that the company hosted the Mandalika Art and Culture Performance (MACP) at the resort’s local MSME Bazaar over the weekend. Organized in collaboration with the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Cultural Centre and local art collectives, the showcase featured the SakSak Dance group performing the Legend of Princess Mandalika through drama, music, and dance.
ITDC emphasized that while major racing and sporting fixtures serve as primary traffic pullers, integrating regional folklore and community-led art builds a distinct destination identity that encourages longer visitor stays. Tourism state-owned enterprise leadership and provincial cultural directors affirmed that integrating authentic living traditions into modern tourism hubs ensures cultural preservation while distributing economic benefits directly to local communities.
Ahmad Fajar outlined the strategic vision behind integrating regional arts into the master plan. "We want the Mandalika to grow not merely as an event venue, but as a destination with a powerful narrative, character, and experience, major events drive national branding and initial visits," Ahmad Fajar said on Sunday, August 23, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Head of the NTB Provincial Cultural Centre Lalu Suryadi Mulawarman highlighted the importance of active community participation in preserving ancestral heritage.
"The Legend of Princess Mandalika is an integral part of Lombok’s cultural heritage passed down across generations, reinterpreting this story through performance art with local communities ensures that cultural preservation goes beyond mere conservation, it keeps our traditions alive, relevant, and engaging for future generations and international visitors alike," Lalu added. ***
